## Use the identifiers you already trust

FactoryCards does not invent a warehouse addressing scheme or allocate serial numbers. It helps you present existing locations on a fixed 100 × 50 mm card. Start with a small representative sample, including your longest names and codes.

## How to use FactoryCards

1. **Choose a representative set.** Include a short location, a long one and any identifier with leading zeroes. Enter them manually or import a CSV from your existing list.
2. **Review every included record.** Check display text, encoded values and copies. Resolve overflow and unsupported characters before generating a complete PDF. Exclude a record explicitly if it should not be printed.
3. **Check a physical card in place.** Print one card on matching stock at actual size. Check readability and scanner input in the intended location. Use the result to decide whether this fixed size and layout suits the job.

## The longest location matters

A card that fits A-01 may not fit a long descriptive location. FactoryCards reports layout errors instead of silently cutting off text or shrinking every card. A preview is useful evidence of layout; it cannot prove physical scan distance or readability on a particular rack.

## Questions

### Can it connect to my warehouse or factory software?

There is no live connector in this utility. Import a CSV or enter records manually, and keep your source system as the authority for location identifiers.

### Can I make large signs for high-bay racks?

The current fixed format is 100 × 50 mm. Assess physical readability and scanning for your use case; larger signage and long-range qualification are outside this release.

### How can I check the barcode values?

Export a selected sample of expected values for ScannerBench, then compare real keyboard scans against them. The export is an expectation file, not proof that a printed symbol scans.

## Current scope

Create location cards, keep display text separate from the encoded value, choose Code 128 or QR, and review the exact PDF before downloading. Import UTF-8 CSV, choose copies, save a portable project and export a sample of expected scan values for ScannerBench.

The current alpha supports only bin/rack cards on 100 × 50 mm stock, one card per PDF page, at 203 or 300 DPI. It is not an inventory system, replenishment workflow or general label designer. A4/Letter sheets and other card types are not implemented. Physical printer/scanner qualification remains outstanding.

## Privacy

Entered records, imported CSV and projects are processed locally in browser memory. No accounts, uploads, analytics or automatic persistent storage are used. Download a project to keep editable work; reloading loses unsaved changes. Hosting may log ordinary asset requests. The app loads its own renderer assets; it is not an installed offline app.
